Presentation

Advanced techniques for the characterization of resins in rubber

New techniques based on commercially available equipment are presented for evaluating both reinforcing and performance resins. Novolac-type reinforcing resins investigated by High-Frequency DMA to quantify the degree of nonlinearity induced in rubber cause a higher response of the super harmonic resonance. The efficient utilization of performance resins requires knowledge about their influence on the dynamic glass transition and their miscibility behaviour in the specific rubber compound. Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy and Fast Differential Scanning Calorimetry are applied for the characterization of the dielectric and thermal relaxations. Results can be described by one single VFTH equation over 10 decades.
