The splice checker from Afache ensures structural stability and uniformity of tires by detecting open splices, overlaps, dog ears and other imperfections on all tire components, including belt, tread, carcasses and preassemblies. The company claims an accuracy of ±0.6mm.
Measurements can be transferred to the manufacturing execution system, to be used as quality control data. It can also be used by the PLC of a tire building machine for length measurement. An additional feature of the new system is the ability to set a safe zone between the splice of the building process and the splice of the cutting process. This way, if two splices are detected too close to each other, a warning will be shown to safeguard quality.
