Setting the benchmark for recycled steel transparency
Bekaert

According to Bekaert, its Recycled Content Steel Standard represents a significant leap forward in the steel industry’s commitment to sustainability. The company says that the standard is not just about integrating recycled materials; it is a comprehensive framework that sets rigorous criteria for recycled content claims in steel wire products. A key differentiator of the standard is its emphasis on controlled blending and physical segregation of materials, as opposed to relying solely on mass balance approaches. Bekaert says this ensures a high level of traceability and integrity in the recycled content, clearing the path for transparent recycled content communication and reducing ambiguities related to the presence of scrap in the product.

Bekaert says that by adopting the standard – which will be unveiled at this year’s Tire Technology Expo – the industry can collectively move toward a more sustainable and responsible steel industry, establishing a new benchmark for environmental stewardship.
