ISCC-certified carbon black
Scandinavian Enviro Systems

The IPCC report and COP26 have updated and drawn attention to the climate issue and indicated the direction for the industry’s change. New technology and new business models are crucial to break the negative impact on the climate. Circular value chains are becoming increasingly important. Enviro has picked up the baton for such a change in the tire industry. Through patented technology and a strategic partnership with tire manufacturer Michelin, which is also the largest stakeholder in the company, concrete examples of more circular solutions are now being established. Several leading tire manufacturers are lining up and increasing their activities to introduce Enviro’s recovered carbon black materials and fractions of the tire pyrolysis oil into new tires.

Enviro is the first company to ISCC-certify carbon black. This means that customers get traceability and measurability that are reported in the form of a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Enviro’s carbon black material reduces CO2 impact by 93% compared with conventional fossil carbon black. It is thus already a measurable sustainability parameter that customers in the tire and rubber industry are increasingly asking for due to higher demands from their customers in, for example, the automotive industry.

Enviro’s oil is both ISCC-EU and ISCC-Plus certified. The former means that the oil meets the requirements placed on players in the fuel industry to reduce fossil raw materials. The high bio-content in Enviro’s oil creates great advantages in conversion for these customers. The chemical industry and base oil producers are also interested in the oil, as are producers of fossil carbon black, who see opportunities to use Enviro’s oil as a valuable and sustainable substituting raw material.

The resources recycled from the tires are oil, gas, carbon black and steel. To meet market and regulatory requirements, Enviro ensures that it meets current and future environmental requirements for facilities and recycled resources. The facilities meet the strictest environmental requirements set by the EU, which also means that similar regulations are met in most markets.
