Speaker Company

Marco Girotto

Marco has an MSc in industrial chemistry and has spent the last six years working at Maris Technological Center, a leading company in the manufacturing of co-rotating twin-screw extruders based in Torino, Italy. The technological center is the core of the company in terms of process know-how. It's the place where customers’ ideas are realized and where, thanks to fully equipped pilot lines, new materials are produced. Marco plays an important role as a process expert, together with a team of colleagues. R&D, development of new applications, equipment optimization and constant customer support are the basis of his activities.

Presentation

Continuous rubber recycling using co-rotating twin-screw extruders (c-TSE)

Maris Company, the manufacturer of co-rotating twin-screw extruders since 1962, entered the field of rubber processing more than 15 years ago. The experience acquired in this field allowed Maris to develop a new patented process able to devulcanize the cured rubber, restoring its plasticity and allowing it to be processed again. Maris devulcanization is a continuous thermomechanical process, without the use of any chemical agent. This process has been optimized for different kinds of elastomers, such as NR, SBR, EPDM, and FKM. From laboratory tests, the obtained devulcanization yield is 50-90% and the recycled material can be reused as a secondary raw material.
